International Standards of Organization or ISO is the sensitivity of light you are allowing for your camera. No matter where you set your ISO as long as you balance it out with the shutter speed and aperture the picture no matter if it's in the dark or in light will always come out light. Both picture below were taken in the dark with different ISO's yet both look pretty much the same. So why bother changing them? If you look at the picture with the low ISO vs. the high ISO you'll see how "grainy" the high ISO. The ISO is high to capture more light for the picture making it not as good quality in the dark. While the low ISO has a faster shutter speed and makes the picture a better quality.
